2022 Coding Update for Orthopaedics

Recorded Webinar | Lynn Anderanin | From: Jan 16, 2022 - To: Dec 31, 2022
Description

As we enter another year there are coding changes for CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and the CMS Physicians Fee Schedule final rule that affect coding for orthopedics. For 2022 there are new diagnoses codes for low back pain, multiple revisions to spine surgery CPT® codes for code clarification, and additions to include new laminectomy add-on codes that are found in the 60000 series of codes along with the destruction of intraosseous basivertebral nerves. There is also a complete overhaul of the guidelines for fracture/dislocation treatment with new and revised descriptions that anyone coding for fractures and dislocations should be aware of. Casting, splinting, and strapping are part of these guidelines.

In the CMS Physicians Fee Schedule for 2022, the directions on reporting therapy services that involve assistants have been finalized and several initiatives have been delayed due to the Public Health Emergency. There are also new guidelines for shared/split visits which are common in the orthopedic practice between physicians and non-physician providers.

Everything you need to know about the coding changes for orthopedics will be discussed in this webinar.

Highlights:-

  • ICD-10-CM code changes in orthopedics
  • Revised CPT® guidelines for fracture care to include casting, splinting, and strapping
  • Spine surgery changes that will assist in correct coding
  • New requirements in reporting therapy services involving assistants
  • Expected changes to documentation guidelines for E/M in 2023
